Forensic Accounting

Fraud is a word that nobody likes to hear. Fraud and abuse is a growing problem that affects practically every organization, no matter their size. Even organizations with the tightest internal controls can be susceptible to fraud and abuse.

Fraud is not just the conventional meaning of “stealing”. Fraud can happen in a variety of ways including asset misappropriations, occupational fraud, or financial statement misstatements. If you are concerned about financial discrepancies or vulnerabilities in your organization, you need a forensic accountant. Forensic accountants go beyond looking at just the numbers.

What is forensic accounting? Forensic accounting is the science that deals with the relation and application of finance, accounting, tax, and auditing knowledge to analyze, investigate, inquire, test and examine matters in civil law, criminal law and jurisprudence in an attempt to obtain the truth from which to render an expert opinion.

Our firm includes forensic accountants who are Certified Fraud Examiners (CFEs). A certified fraud examiner is a leader in the anti-fraud community and is noted as a specialist in the prevention, detection and deterrence of fraud. The CFE designation is only awarded to those who have the proven ability to prevent, detect and investigate a wide range of fraudulent conduct. The Certified Fraud Examiners on staff are members of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and the Connecticut Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

Our Certified Fraud Examiners on staff specialize in the following areas:

- Assisting in the prevention, detection, and deterrence of fraud

- Fraud and financial investigations

- Asset misappropriations
